Django

An opportunity to help a beautiful being enjoy a life of love and security

Django is a lovely, intelligent four and a half year old beagle. For most of his life Django has been a hunting dog. As is quite common in France, Django was seen as a working animal rather than a pet. He was kept in an outside pen and only taken outside when a hunt was on. Last year, he became quite lonely when his companion dog died and he also developed epilepsy.

A group of friends got together to find Django a new home and for the last six months Django has lived with his adopted mother, Maria, as a much loved pet. Django quickly got used to living indoors and although he has never been trained (except as a hunting dog) he quickly adapted to home life.

Earlier this month, Maria noticed that Django lacked energy and was much fussier about his food. The vet diagnosed anemia and referred him to more specialist treatment. Django was taken to the Toulouse Veterinary School where he has received excellent care, a blood transfusion and an extensive set of tests. This process has now taken several weeks during which Django has now been diagnosed with non-regenerative anemia, in addition to several other health issues. In recent weeks (May/June) he has lost 7kg and has periods of extreme lethargy.

Ongoing treatment

The great news is that Django can be treated, and we are optimistic that he will make a recovery. The difficult news is that this is expensive.

Django’s adopted mother has already incurred costs of approximately 3,000€, and his medication will cost around 350€ a month. We have managed to raise 1,000€, and would like to now raise a further 3,000€ to cover the costs already incurred, and to cover the costs of medicine going forward.

An incredibly kind sponsor has agreed to raise all donations by 25% so for example, a 10€ donation will be increased to 12.50€. We realise that there are many worthy causes crying out for support but hope that you will support Django to recover from his illness.

Where there is a mind, there are feelings such as pain, pleasure, and joy. No sentient being wants pain; instead all want happiness.

Since we all share these feelings at some basic level, we as rational human beings have an obligation to contribute in whatever way we can to the happiness of other species and try our best to relieve their fears and sufferings.

If you are able to donate, either a one off sum or a monthly contribution you can do so via the Gofundme website we have set up or through our Support Us buttons

For those donors living close to Lavaur we would like, once Django is up to it, to invite you to a picnic with Django so that you can see what a lovely, friendly dog Django is in spite of the difficult life he lived as a hunting dog. Thank you very much for considering donating.
